Uh…sorry?
It’s okay, Asher. Don’t worry about it.

It’s really quiet for a Saturday.
We don’t really live in the most exciting place.

What’re you doing, if not out on a Saturday night?

Confession:
I hope Evie can lose that pregnancy weight.Shut the fuck up. She is beautiful, okay? Do you not realize that she is carrying the most precious thing life can give us inside of her, and all you’re concerned about is her image? Evie will always be beautiful, no matter how she looks.
…Asher, you don’t have to defend me. I know I don’t look good right now. This isn’t what’s important.

Confession:
I feel bad for Asher’s kid. Who would ever want to have a father like that?
Let me make this clear, right now. No one needs to pity our daughter. She is being born into the most loving family that anyone could imagine, even if Asher and I aren’t together. I have complete faith in the man that he will be an incredible father. This little girl is going to be luckier than you, you gossipy little shit, and will be unconditionally loved by both of her amazing parents.

Matt had tried to ignore Evie as he made his way towards the kitchen, at first ignoring Evie’s question. He searched through the cabinets, looking through each and every wood cabinet, still groggy which made it even more confusing for him to decipher which cabinet contained the cups. After two minutes of searching, he reached up, grabbing a glass, filling it up with water, avoiding Evie’s gaze.
He drank the water slowly, nearly coughing it out as it made its way down his throat, the coolness of the liquid close to burning his lungs. He walked to the table, trying to give Evie a look that screamed to not worry about him. But again, even after knowing the woman for three months, he knew her well. And he knew that she wasn’t going to back off this subject that easily. As soon as his lungs adjusted to having water poured down them, he spoke quietly.
“…I just…haven’t been sleeping well. Okay? It’s been like this for as long as I can remember, but it just got bad recently. …That’s it. I’ll be fine. I promise.” With that, he shut his mouth, hoping that was an acceptable answer for her, nodding and staring down at the table he was sitting at for a bit before standing up and getting another glass of water again, his body apparently having this need for it.
Evie pushed herself up onto a barstool that was sitting in front of the kitchen island, using the countertop to hold her weight. She watched quietly while Matt bustled around the kitchen, looking through cabinets, getting water, and drinking multiple glasses of it, ignoring her the whole time. She had never seen him like this and, in all honesty, it was scarier than trying to wake him from his nightmares. She had never felt so shut out by her best friend.
As soon as he started talking, she perked up. The sound of his voice had never been so relieving. Still, his explanation was short and didn’t actually explain anything. Evie rolled her eyes. “That’s all you’re giving me?” she asked, slightly bewildered that the man who confided one of his biggest secrets in her wouldn’t explain what had just happened. She slid off of the barstool. “Okay,” she said, not trying to push him to far. “If you don’t want to talk about it, that’s fine.”

It’s fine Evie, I understand you’ve been busy. What’s his name? I’ve thought about getting a dog for awhile now, but you know it’s a bit like having a child. Thank you.
His name is Winston. He’s a sweetheart, really. Hardly ever leaves my side. I’d recommend getting one, but then, I’m also about to have a child, so.

Evie! I haven’t seen you for awhile, back from your tour? You look rather radiant.
I got back about two weeks ago. I’m sorry I haven’t come by to see you. I got a dog, and I’ve been spending time getting to know him.
Thank you! You look great, too.
Her eyes opened slowly. The body pillow that she had to sleep with, to rest her stomach on, was pressed against her face. There was a small, wet spot near her mouth. She blinked in disgust and pulled her face away from the white fabric. “Gross,” she muttered, groggily. She rolled over onto her back. The huge bump on her stomach almost blocked her view of WInston, who was lying lazily at the foot of the bed. His black eyes peered curiously at her from under his tousled, hay-colored hair. She smiled at him. “Good morning,” she said, her voice still sleepy. It was nice to have a dog around; it was nice to have anyone around. Sure, her sisters both lived in the same house as her, but they all spent so much time behind closed doors, in front of their computers, that Evie might as well have lived alone. Winston changed that. “You hungry?” she asked the shaggy dog. His ears perked up, but otherwise, he remained still.
She tried to push herself up into a sitting position, but her pregnant stomach wouldn’t allow it. Instead, she threw her legs off of the side of the bed, followed by her body. She landed with a loud thud on the carpet. She rolled her eyes at the sound, annoyed that her body alone was capable of making so much noise. She waddled out of her room into the bathroom down the hall. Her narrow hips and slender legs, which had become much bigger over the past few months, still had a hard time supporting the baby’s weight.
She flipped the light on in the bathroom, but squinted her eyes until they adjusted to the brightness. She grabbed her glasses off of the counter, slipped them on, and looked at her reflection. Her red hair was pulled up in a messy bun. Her eyes were bloodshot. The shirt that she was wearing was stretched tightly across her stomach. She frowned. She looked fat. She was even dissatisfied with the movement her neck made under her frown. Evie wasn’t one for a lack of self confidence, but the rapid gain weight that came along with being pregnant, and the lonely feeling she got every morning in a bed only occupied by her and Winston, was starting to get to her. She brought her hands to her stomach. “I hope you get here soon, little girl,” she whispered. A small kick against her hand brought her usual smile back to her lips.
